2012

Right now, I'm watching a great show on the National Geographic Channel about comets. The show is titled: Naked Science Comets

This special is describing how a large body of comets exists outside our solar system. The comets themselves are left over debris from the formation of all of the planets. The comets are black as coal and only show-up and develop their tails because of the heat from our sun. Apparently, the tails are simply gases and debris that breaks away from the rock as its heated from the sun. The tails can be a few feet to a million miles in length.

What do you guys know about comets?

why is the world gonna end at 2012 because last time in 2006 all over TV ,web sites,and radio stations said that the world is gonna end. So u guys are going to say that almost every 6 or 7 years.

It's an end and a beginning. An end to the old way of life and living and the start of a new. goodbye to the old outdated, overstayed, underdeveloped human and the dawn of the new, upgraded(finally) YOU.

Is not a comet what is coming toward our planet, is a big planet that do its orbit near this solar system, so when this giant came close to our planet will put the planet up side down, where is water will be land and where is land will be water
it not going to destroy this planet only will change it.

Well as you know many countries have start developing nuclear missles,why don't all the countries unite as 1 and fire all the missle towards the comet.This will save the earth and let us learn that unity should be practiced and start caring for others.

There are many theories as to what will happen in 2012. However; Planet X (Niribu) that you mention is one of the many theories out there. Planet X is also thought to have many comets caught in its orbit. The comet swarm that returns with Planet X is thought to cause the 2012 comet impact.

The firing of missiles to blow up a comet or asteroid is no longer thought to be an option. We are afraid that this would actually make things worse. Instead of having one big object coming towards earth, we would end-up with many smaller objects. The latest idea is to have a large ship fly next to the comet or asteroid and use the gravitational pull from the ship to nudge it off its path. The only problem with this solution is that we must have a lot of time to plan and create a ship that does not exist yet.

Yeah right. A bigger planets gravity would tear this planet apart if it got close enough. So all the water that is currently on the planet will end up on the land and the land will be where the sea was? OK, so how does that happen?70% does not fit into 30% unless the depth happens to be 50 miles.

I used to be a believer in 2012 prophesy. There have been people saying the world is going to end for as long as the Earth has been here. The only difference is the Mayan Prophesy. They don't actually say that the world is ending….just a cycle that is ending, and a new one starting..I really think that everything is going to be exactly the same….same as it ever was..

I just don't get it. Hearing all these things of a new better cycle of life after 2012 and how better things are going to be. We have all the tools for a better way of life today and it doesn't make a difference. The U.S. as a whole has gotten complacent and fat. How do you think we act in the face of mass destruction across the country? Look at Katrina and see the reaction of people from a civilized country. I just don't see it. I mean unless the comet has magic comet dust that transforms our consciousness to an elevated state. Not saying simpler might not be better but look at history and the atrocities that have been committed in simpler times. Or maybe Jesus will be riding that comet and it will be the beginning of Armageddon. I just feel that if something like this happens(and I'm not sold it will) its not going to be this spiritual experience that some are making it to be. We are screwed. Sure there are going to be survivors but its going to be long climb back up. And just curious to why a comet would kill every dinosaur but mammals would survive along with reptiles and amphibians,etc?
