You have a typo there, Shiro. A funny one, though.

Shiro wrote:Well, Like Zanariel said, We, the readers, can't be 100% sure it really happaned. After all, seeing is believing, reding not so much.

There's this thing called a 'False Truth'. Which happens when the human mind experiences something it can't explain. The way the mind works is that it creates bit and pieces of information from nothing, just trying to cope with something it can't understand, and the final picture becomes completely different and yet, to that persons mind its completely true. They believe it 100%, sure they are not wrong.

I read that somewhere once, i think it was a psychological explanation for people with fake memories or something, can't be sure. I'll try and look it up.

Again, I'm not saying that's what happened, but it COULD have. We can't be 100% sure of that either.

The information I linked to in another thread about the amygdala and the limbic system is what you are describing there. Only, it's inaccurate to say that "it creates bits and pieces of information from nothing." its not from nothing, it's from the sensory input that our eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and nerve endings are sending back to our brain. The point here is that that information has to be processed, sometimes we do that hastily and we're absolutely wrong, sometimes we do it with poor information, and no matter how much time given we still can't make accurate sense of the information.

There is an amazing TED talk by a fellow named Daniel Dennett about consciousness. I suggest you all watch it. I suggest everyone in the world watches it...

You can make the entire engine of a 747 disappear and most people won't be able to make that determination for a number of seconds. Imagine how many things like UFOs or ghosts people have seen or experienced that lasted less than a second?

Another thing to consider is the how small the foveal point of our vision actually is. How much area we can actually pay attention to at a time. We don't even notice how constantly our eyes switch focus from one direction or distance to another. To us it makes up a relatively smooth experience, but it is not so under the metaphorical magnifying glass.

And it's also linked to conclusions (heh, here I go again).

Two different persons, seeing the same thing, may have different ideas about it.

Imagine, for example, a "ghos-like-figure".

The first person, who believes in the existence of ghosts, will claim that it is one.

The second one, skeptical, will try to find some scientifical explanation for the figure, probably ending with an idea of what it really was.

It's all about different ideas. You believe in what you want to, according to your own tastes and beliefs. The conclusions you take follow your internal, and unic, process of thinking.

I do not believe in what I want to. I don't believe in much. Belief is reserved for the most special things in my life, like love.

Let me put it another way. I don't believe in evolution. I understand it. This is the power of using science to make sense of natural phenomenon. It has nothing to do with my belief in anything. I understand how the theory works and what it can be used to explain and what it can't be used to explain. Which is a stark contrast from probably 40-60% of my fellow American's that read a blurb about evolution in some book (or more likely magazine since Americans don't read) or television program and have the arrogance to decide they've heard enough, "My daddy weren't no ape!" Those people aren't stupid their ignorant. Their only real offense is that they are too stupid to realize they don't know s**t until the do the work it takes to learn. A blurb about evolution is like dismissing the literary value of Shakespear's work based on, "Where for art thou Romeo?" concluding, "What? 'Art', 'thou', that ain't even english!

When I say beliefs, I'm talking about non-provable and non-explainable things. Like the faith in god, believing that ghosts exist, and so on. You can't understand that, at least at this point, but you can believe in it.

You can also believe in the invisible pink unicorn for that matter.

I am a very level headed woman, I am not given to flights of fancy, I dont do drugs nor do I drink alcohol. I am not a fool and I dont believe everything I read. Having said this I know there are things stranger than fiction in this world. This is my story and that of my friends, whom incidently would deny this to their death beds, especially one of them, who is a macho male who does not believe it if he can not touch it.

Way back at the end of the 70's early 80's, I was walking the floor with one of my children it had been a long night and there was no settling her, I was standing in a darkened bedroom looking into the night sky. It was a cloudless, moonless night where you could see the whole sky. I witnessed a bright light that was very high up in the sky, my window was a wide window and this object was moving at a rapid speed. I have no explanation except to say after that I looked out often and watched as aircraft flew by and none of them moved at the speed of this object.

Not long after this a few friends and I had been out on the town, we had, had a fab night and we were in high spirits, as I have already said I had not been drinking. We decided to go to a friends house to continue our night. This time the moon was shinning in all her glory, it was a November night and it was beautiful. As we were walking towards my friends house looking at the moon, a huge disc shapped object came towards us, it hovered over the church roof, came very close to us, we just stood there frozen in terror, my heart was beating into my mouth. Jsut then one of our group managed to move and started to run, she banged on a neigbours door. He had been sleeping, he had not been drinking, he came out laughing at her stupidity thinking she was simply drunk. As he looked up towards the object he almost fell over, he did a double take, shouted words which I wont repeat ran back into his house and locked the door. The disc shaped object practically disappeared before our very eyes.

This did happen and it happened to me.

I have never seen anything since, nor do I have a wish to, I do not scan the night skys anymore. If they are out there they can stay out there thank you very much.

I absolutly saw one, low, broad daylight, slow, clear as day, undeniable, cigar shaped, looked like an extra giant upside down bus.....I also admit that I didn't believe for sure either, and would get pissed off at all of the video's of lights twirling around that couldn't prove a thing. ;)

Has anyone seen a UFO "toy" about as big as a lane of traffic?
We were outside of Walker Minnesota, and coming in the facing traffic, was a disk shaped, light, sandy, metal color round thing with a black dome top. There were no windows, but it was going as fast as the traffic. There were cars behind it going in the same direction and it
was in the lead. I thought of some kind of toy or remote controlled thing but it was going pretty fast for that. It didn't look like it could have been driven by anyone having no windows that we could see and I don't think it would have been legal.
Thanks...
