Hey Johnny D.
Sounds like you got most of your info on the Maya from Mel Gibson's anti-indigenous film based much more on the facts of the Aztec empire than the Mayans. In Gibson's movie, it is the arrival of the "enlightened Christians" that put the horror of Maya culture to the righteous sword. There are a plethora of much more objective books on the subject of this highly advanced culture...starting with Dr. Jose Arguelles, "The Mayan Factor"...a book so stunning that many of the world's top physicists and
scientists sought to debunk it, only to find so much overwhelming
evidence that one of them (Dr. Brian Swimme) actually wound up writing the intro to the book.
I suspect that logic, reason and irrefutable science won't persuade you, however. There was once another species that thrived on the Yucatan Peninsula..one that wasn't nearly as evolved as the Maya...one that people with such tightly clamped-down minds remind me more of....the dinosaurs. Like the dinosaurs, this willfully ignorant human species faces its own extinction. Whether you subscribe to Mayan science or not, we'd all be well served to notice the lateness of the hour and conduct ourselves more in accord with a species that wants to survive in harmony, rather than perish in our selfishness.
Best of luck, Johnny D. We're all going to need it.
