I think flame is right. The meteor/comet/thing is called Eros, not Nibiru. And its supposed to whiz by earth, not actually hit it. This is just for people to make money. I mean, there's even a movie coming out. The snowball effect took it too far. And the Mayans couldn't predict this. They were wrong i so many ways, it's inpossible to count. This is just so retarded. What if it does come? what if it doesn't?At least if you wake up on that morning and see a planet in the sky that wasn't there the day before,at least there's an explanation for it.what does it hurt to guess? they really do have that section blacked out on all of the public space viewing programs.It's a little fishy.It seems that every culture that pre dates our own points to 2012 for some great change or cataclysm.Maybe we get invaded by hostile aliens(no matter what you think,the goverments have to be hiding first contact from us,technology is just progressing way too fast.I almost think that stargate sg-1 show is just poking fun at the obvious.)maybe a comet hits us,maybe one of mankinds experiments with particle accelerators goes wrong and we open an event horizon on our planet.maybe nothing happens, but they did announce a planet x discovery in 1983 and soon after congress help a "secret" closed session.do you really think they would tell us one way or the other until the last moment? Out of all of the 2012 scenarios, the nibiru thing sounds the most realistic if you really think about it.Do you really think that our 60 year old space program really has any clue?they only know an infantile amount about space.The mayans seemed to know more than we do now when it comes to astronomy,they were incredibly accurate.Their belief in cycles over the ages is the closet absolute there is in this galaxy.It's worth a second thought at least.Wouldn't you rather be a little educated if everything goes to hell on that day? or would you rather be panicked and clueless if it actually happens?

Ok...First off I'd like to say that if there were a large body in space heading in this general direction. At this point in time we should be able to go outside and see it with the naked eye. Something just doesn't wiz past us in several minutes to a day in space. Take into acount that we sent Voyager 1 and 2 in to space 30 years ago. The are just now reaching the edge of our solar system to deep space. If Nibiru/Eris were coming we would have seen it coming with the naked eye a hundred or so years ago. If it has an orbit of 3500 or so years I think that plenty of time to see the thing coming. Even if you don't know where to look. Besides the word Nibiru is another name for Jupiter. And Eris is the largest known dwarf planet in the Solar System and the ninth-largest body known to orbit the Sun directly. In any case the point I'm trying to make here is that if something were coming we could see it and notice with every passing year that it's looking bigger and bigger to us for the fact that it would be coming closer; not here today and gone tomorrow. If such a thing was to orbit the sun in such a path it wouldn't be gone the next day in fact it would take several decades for the thing to even begin it's journey back in to the depths of the solar system. Don't forget it takes this thing 3500 years to complete one orbit so it's not moving that fast in terms of astronomics even for the distance that this Planet X supposedly moves. In my opinion we're more likely to be hit by unsuspecting asteroids and comets in the future; not necessarily in 2012, but who knows. I wouldn't consider myself educated in this kind of stuff. I do keep an open mind and if something were to happen in 2012 at least I'd have a bit of understanding at what was going on. In the mean time I don't think of it as the end...only a new beginning. Time will tell, but take a look in the sky on a clear night. Monitor for yourself instead of taking others at their word only.

ok, someone brought up 2012 yesterday which started me on a research binge. The only big event I found that is actually scheduled for that year is the asteroid 433 Eros which will pass by the Earth at about a distance of 17 million miles, it has a solar orbit, and the last time it came by it was even closer, 1975, at 14 million miles. Research is much more reliable than myth, religion, superstitions, and blind fear mongering speculations.
