I consider myself an atheist. There have been thousands of different deities worshiped through the millenia and while I find the mythology to be fascinating, I also find none of the arguments at all compelling that any of them existed in any other form that fantasy.

The funny thing is that just about every religious person in the world sides with me about rejecting all but one of these deities. These people have somehow convinced themselves that all the other religions had it wrong, but the one they chose is the correct one. Amazing how indoctrination into a religion can allow someone to both accept the validity of what seems like fantasy to a non believer, and reject all other religions in for exactly this reason. Boggles the mind.

But the comfort of religion is more than most people are willing to give up.

Too true, but 'atheist' means someone who lacks a belief in a god / gods. Since theistic followers of religion believe in at least one god, they are not atheists.

Atheists are not everybody, Agnostics believe in god but don't consider him important to help him, Humanist have a religion which always tries to reject the existence of god and reject all other forms of religion. Born again know God in person and have a relationship with him in the spirit and gods spirit protects them in their life. Atheist say I don't believe in God, but if you do that's alright with me. Just leave me alone to believe what I want. Many other religions don't have a personal relationship with god. But believe in their own way Fables do not help the soul of man and are just stories for intrigue purposes.

Strong Atheism states there is no God.

Weak atheists, or adeists, state that they have no belief or disbelief of God, which, in the final analysis is equivalent to strong atheism, has no advantage over strong atheism, and maybe even intellectually dishonest.

Strong atheism will make the statement that there is no God, lacks belief / has unbelief in God.

Weak atheism, adeism, a new atheist fad, was made popular by Richard Dawkins. In the final analysis, the position advances atheism no further than traditional atheism because adeism embraces the idea the argumentative device that the burden of proof is on the theist. But any atheist who knows what they are doing will have an understanding that the burden of proof was always on the theist to begin with, making the argumentative device of the adeist pointless. Additionally, in the final analysis, whether you say you have no belief in a God to believe or disbelieve, it make no difference to a debate between two people who know what they are doing.

Strong, weak or in between; Atheist are showing more intelligent behavior, so long live the new "fad". From all I have read 2012 is not the end of the earth, it's the end of an era, the era of superstition coming to an end and the start of the era of enlightenment.

I really don't think this is an appropriate topic to breach. I will anyway, there is no way we are all atheists. I believe in god and I believe in Jesus and that he was the son of god, but I in no way consider myself a christian because most of those beliefs are ridiculous. My beliefs are to complicated to name. But a good point was raised that people can dismiss other religions as complete bull, but their own is absolutely correct. As we are only human, we can not know what else is out there until we die, at which point, does it really matter? This is life, we are lucky to be living it. We should have fun, live right, help others, and just be good! We'll worry about what comes next when that time comes, until than, live life to its fullest!

I understand that you don't want to be associated with Christians... but if you believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God, you are a Christian. Simple as that. But hooray for someone who doesn't claim to know the meaning of the universe...

Hey, I'm all for atheism, but all superstitions and belief systems taking a swan dive in 2012? Come on! Most societies are based on these things, we aren't going to drop it anytime soon. Also, what have you read? Predictions of the future? Based on what exactly? Sounds suspiciously superstitious to me guest.

They aren't just going to drop it immediately. Belief in Christianity has been on a decline as the population becomes more aware of how ridiculous it really is. More and more people are not religious, and perhaps 2012 will be a time when religion can finally take a backseat to more important matters. Like saving the planet and exposing corrupt governments.
