It could be sheer marketing, but I believe the public fears has been nourished by many web pages, groups and sects, well before the brilliant idea of making a film about this date was launched. IMO the film is taking profit of these fears and not the opposite.

It is similar to the Millennium Syndrome, people get crazy about millennium changes and this also happened at the transition from 999 to 1000 as I have read.

This same site holds some articles pointing to different reasons why the world will end soon.

It’s up to you to believe in pseudo sciences or not to.

actually yeah there is a point in believing the mayan calender theory as for the first time it is coinciding with the nostradamus prediction……so you never know what happens next …..so in my opinion live every moment of your life to the fullest and just enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

As a marketing campaign it’s brilliant – a masterpiece. But as a contribution to the human race it is absolutely vile. Has Hollywood finally lost the plot ?

All the chaos you see on the websites is merely a cool ad of the movie 2012. It’s their plan to let the people themselves make ads for their movie. For your information many theaters around the world have already sold out the movie tickets. What do you think?

I believe that something will happen, I’m just not certain what will. We are all in Gods hands. And if it’s your time, then it’s your time. Nothing you can do about it. Everything happens for a reason. And never question what that reason is. Just let it be. I’ll just pray everyday that nothing will happen and if it does for him to have mercy on our souls…

Many people here are trusting the Christian God to decide and eventually save (or doom) the world on 2012. But have they taken into account that the humans amount to over 7 billion right now and that Christians are a clear minority?

The Mayans were not Christians, in the first place, and Spanish Christian conquerors in the XV-XVI centuries drew all aborigine cultures in America almost extinct. They did this in the name of their God.

I do not think that the Mayans were thinking about US when they made their infamous calender.

So many different Gods, so many different beliefs… I accept your Faith as I accept so many other Faiths out there, but please, do not apply it at a planetary scale.

It makes no sense.

maybe the mayans prediction is just about their group, or maybe they’re following different cycles in a month, years, decades, etc, etc.. maybe it’s just the end of their calendar so they needed to create a new one … Considering other factors, these are just prophecies scaring people.. i don’t believe it but it is an interesting topic right? hehehe
